Yay or Nay - Are You Dressing Up For the Holidays?

Updated: Jan 25, 2023

The year 2020 I don't think any of us will ever forget. Our first holiday in quarantine, I'm sure all of us were in pajamas, had messy hair, and were only spending it with the people in your household. At least that's what my husband and I were doing. The year 2021, it was pretty much the same but maybe a little bit more lenient. Speeding it up today, 2022, we're basically all back to normal! So answer me this, how many of you are sick of wearing comfy clothes all day long?

Okay, okay, I'm sure some of you are still enjoying it because it's more your style. I will say though, a lot of people reached out to me this year because they're sick of it! They all mentioned one of the following things: I feel gross. I feel like I'm not as productive. I feel sloppy. I want to embrace myself. I want to feel confident in wearing regular clothes.

You know what is related to this? Decorating for the holidays early! It is a proven fact that decorating early is a mood booster. Read about it via this article I found at Today.com Psychologist, Deborah Serani, who is interviewed in the article says, "Christmas decorating will spike dopamine, a feel-good hormone." She continues to explain what is it exactly that triggers that hormone; "For starters, the bright lights and colors. Chromotherapy or color therapy is thought to increase energy levels and boost happiness" <--Sound familiar?! I talk about color psychology within fashion psychology ALL THE TIME! Serani also talks about how it might just be the overall ambiance. That can be understandable.

So now let's put dressing up post-pandemic and decorating early for the holidays together and what do you get? If you dress up for the holidays, you'll probably feel awesome and confident!

Seriously think about it, when was the last time you dressed up nice? A lot of my clients can't put a finger on a timeframe because it's been THAT LONG. But ask yourself this, if you were to dress up, how would you feel? Would it make you feel confident? Handsome? Beautiful? Special? It probably would!

What inspired me to write this blog post was a client of mine named Michelle. She and her husband started out as my personal shopping clients at Arc's Value Village. After a few years, they reached out to me directly and needed help finding special event wear to a wedding because, something we're not used to seeing on an invite, it was semi-formal attire. They couldn't get around it either because they were going to be IN the family photos.

This is one of the dresses I sent over to her,

She bought,

She loved, and

She looked AMAZING in!!

Well speeding up to just recently, she reached out again to conduct a Closet Analysis and do a bit of shopping afterwards. While we were catching up in the middle of her appointment, she brought up this dress. She talked about how she loved it so much! She loved it so much so that she said she was going to wear it to the family holidays! Another member in her family also said that she loved a dress that she had so she agreed to go to the family holidays alongside Michelle, dressed up!!

Two women loving the way they look. Loving the way they felt confident. So why the hell not?!

If you're on-board to dress up for the holidays and embrace yourself and your confidence, I did some shopping for you already! And no, there's not just women's looks in this blog:

I hope you and your friends and family have a wonderful holiday season! Until next time, -Melissa
